Meet NOVI and the Gang
Welcome to Harmony Farms!

Hi, my name is Novi, and since I am the new 'HEAD OF THE HERD',
I get to introduce you to all my friends.
As you will see, I am kind of new in my position as HEAD OF THE HERD, so if I make any mistakes,
just ignore me, everyone else does!
Novi I am NOVI, a chocolate brown gelding who is 15.3 hands. Everyone thinks I am the handsomest horse in the barn and I agree!  All the mares love me!
I lived in Wisconsin before coming to Florida in 2006.  Did some shows, trail rides and best of all, I was a therapy horse for 5 years!
When I came to Harmony Farms, Pepsi appointed me as second in command of the herd!  He recognized that I was johnny on the spot when it comes to checking on everything!  Now I am the HEAD OF THE HERD and Pepsi has stepped down.  If you ask me, he was starting to slack off.  He never ran around checking where everyone was, who was still in the barn and telling the humans to let them out, watching all the action on the other side of the fence, all the time, every day!  That stuff is important!
Pepsi thinks I am obsessive about all that, but hey, someone has to be, right?  I take my job seriously.

Born: 1995

Pepsi I AM PEPSI, the former Head of the Herd!  In December 1999, I hung up my Barrel Racing gear and came to Harmony Farms for a little relaxation. I am a Bay gelding with lots of muscles, that the mares love.  I still love to run and play, but when it comes to our delicate riders, I can be soft and sweet.

I recently moved to our other pasture to be with my buddy, Soda Pop and that little pony, Star.  Things move a little slower over there and at this age, that is fine with me!  Of course, that meant stepping down as the herd leader, but you know what, who needs it anyway!  All that running around keeping track of everyone, training new horses in the herd, keeping the girls in line (you know how they get).  So guess what, Novi?  You can have it all with my blessings!  I am over here just chillin'!

Star
STAR is only 12 hands high and some of us think she's just a late bloomer and will eventually get bigger, but she assures us she is full grown. She is a very cute flashy pony. She may be short, but she doesn't have any trouble keeping up with us when we are all running. She spends lots of time rolling in the dirt and loves to be dirty. Maybe she just wants a beautiful dark coat like mine!

They tell me she is a bit of a "Star" at the barn because she gets to go to all the cool places for something called Public Relations!  She has been to college, golf tournaments, an art gallery & to many elementary schools.  Then she comes back and tells us about all the treats she had, just to make us jealous.  You know what?  It works!

Born:  1984
Breed: Quarter Horse Pinto

She's just Star!
Arrived: 2001
Flash
Have you ever met a real race horse?  Well, here is FLASH and he is really fast!  He was on the Quarter Horse race track until he was 4 years old.
Flash came to Harmony in November 2003 after living with his former owner for 19 years.
He is a buddy to all. He is a quiet guy, but likes to pretend he is a race horse again when we get running in the pasture.  For an old guy, he can still run like the wind!
He has been retired for a few years, which means he does not have to work!  Wow, when can I get that gig?

Born:  1979
Breed: Quarter Horse

Registered Name:   Coronado Flash
Arrived: 2003
Emily
Meet EMILY!  Emily belonged to a very special lady who passed away in 2004.  Her fondest wish was that Emily would go to live at Harmony Farms and help people.  And she did just that.
She is very gentle and nice to look at too, if you know what I mean!
She is Pepper's girl, but sometimes she acts like she likes all the boys.  I don't know what gets into her when that happens???  Pepper is never too happy about that.
She still catches my eye once in a while.  For an older lady, she still looks pretty cute!

Sgt. Pepper
Pepper's former owners were Veterinarians and he has done it all.  He did the fancy Dressage stuff, Western riding and he was a carriage horse, too.  He loves little kids, even the noisy ones!  Go figure!
He is a little lazy, now that he is older and can be goofy. Sometimes he gives the other geldings a hard time, (except me, No one messes with me!), but all the riders & humans love him.

Born:  1981
Breed:  Appaloosa
Registered Name:  Sgt. Pepper
Arrived: 2004
Soda Pop
Everyone, meet SODA POP!  He was a show horse and he has been everywhere.  Oh the stories he tells.
He is 16H, which is bigger than me, but who cares!
He's pretty quiet most of the time  except at turn out in the morning.  Boy, can he run!  He is now in the smaller pasture with Pepsi & Star. They call him the babysitter horse.  He treats Star like a Princess, but he gets a little too possessive sometimes if you ask me.  She is not a baby you know!  I guess he means well because everyone loves him for it.

Duke
Meet "DUKE"
He is not too big, just 14.2h, and I think he could lose a few pounds! Run around the pasture more, Duke and work off some of that fat. That will get him moving!

Since Dub arrived, Duke likes to hang out with me & her!  They call us the Three Amigos and usually say something like "Here comes trouble" when we head to the gate!  Duke is lots of fun in the pasture and he likes to play games with me; like pulling off each others fly masks!  Oh Boy, what fun.  The humans get upset with us though!

He was donated by one of our volunteers and her kids. They hoped he would work out for us and they were right.  Thank you Gettlemen family.

Pocoso
Meet POCOSO!
What kind of a name is that?  Sounds like Hocus Pocus, if you ask me!  He is an Appendix (QH/TB cross), 15.2 H, Sorrel gelding. The girls all love him!

He is really nice, and guess what he did before.......he was a Polo Horse!!  Wow, now I am impressed.  He can really run, but he is still scared of some of the stuff in the arena.  Like the basketballs, and the big green ball!  Guess he never played basketball on the Polo field!  LOL!

Born:  1993
Breed:  Appendix (Quarter Horse/Thoroughbred)
Not Registered, not Hocus Pocus, just Pocoso!

HORSES IN OUR HEARTS AND MEMORIES ALL THE TIME

Hank
IN MEMORY OF HANK
(31 years young)
BORN : March 1980     DIED:  December 15, 2011
Breed:  Quarter Horse
Registered Name:  Hank's Bar Jess
Therapy Horse:  2001 - 2011

Hank did not have a mean bone in his body.  Although he was the wimp of the pasture and ran away even before things started to get crazy, he was a hero to the volunteers and the riders.  He loved people and being fussed over.  He had his share of Mother Hens over the years and we are grateful for the care and love given to him by everyone, but especially Peggy, Joan, Megan, Mary & Elaine.  They loved him the most and it showed!
The love of his life was Misty.  He always knew where she was in the pasture and mourned her when she was put down.  He truly loved that mare.

Hank will be missed by everyone.  We gave him a wonderful life filled with love and affection for 10 great years.  And he touched the lives of so many children & adults!  Run free of pain, Hankie.  Misty is waiting and she will now be all yours!  We love you!

Gypsy

IN MEMORY OF GYPSY
(32 yrs young)
Born:  1979   Died: 2011
BREED:  Quarter Horse Pony
Therapy Horse since 1999

Gypsy was perhaps the best therapy horse we have ever had at Harmony Farms.  She knew when a child was about to have a seizure, she stood like a statue if a child had a melt down and she loved kids rubbing her head.  Yes, she was a little grumpy at times, and could give you an unexpected nip when you were not looking, but that was Gypsy and we loved her for it.
Your best buddy Misty is now by your side again Gyps!

Let me introduce you to MELODY
A corneal abscess in Jan. 2008, required that her right eye be removed. She took it all in stride, but unfortunately, she began to loose the vision in the remaining eye and by 2011, she was almost completely blind.  She has always been a very tough mare, but she became too fractious to keep at our center.
At the recommendation of friends and equine professionals, we requested that she be able to retire to The Retirement Home for Horses at Mill Creek Farms in Alachua, Fl.  The Gregory's are wonderful people who provide love and care to prior service horses.  The farm is 235 acres of rolling hills, happy horses and dedicated volunteers.  Melody shares a 12 acre pasture with 5 other mares who are blind.  Her former owners live nearby and have adopted her!  This is a perfect ending for a fabulous mare who loved working.  She immediately found a buddy and is reportedly very happy!  We miss her every day.

She will always be the Alpha Mare!
We love you Misty Poo!

Well, those are our stories. We're proud and content that our past lives have led us here to this barn and pasture and to the people who help us help the handicapped. We hope you'll come visit us at Harmony Farms to get to know us a little better. If you can help us in our work with donations of money, supplies, apples, or by volunteering your time, we'd be most grateful. And don't forget to bring carrots!

Happy Trails, Licks & Slobbers,

NOVI
 The Head of the Herd!
