The benefits of equine assisted therapy fall into three categories - physical, mental, and emotional. The content and scope of the lessons vary according to the type and degree of disability, ranging from traditional riding lessons to stable chores. Most lessons utilize exercises and games to keep it interesting for the riders, but is actually a form of therapy. Riders actually compete in our facility competitions and area Challenge shows and Special Olympics.
Riders experience certain physiological effects. Since horseback riding is exciting, adrenaline flows and endorphins are produced in the body which causes the riders to experience feelings of well-being which may last for days. This effect can be said to enhance the quality of life for our rider.
The cost for riding is $20 per week; or $660 per year. The riding program at Harmony Farms runs for 33 weeks a year. Funding is needed to help those riders who cannot afford this fee. All or a portion of the fee will gladly be accepted. Donors will receive photos of the child and their special equine pal. You can also participate as a volunteer on class days and any special events! Can you help?
